Mask Cleaning

Silicone masks

Oil buildup can cause accelerated wear and tear on your silicone mask, which may lead to both a deteriorated mask seal and skin irritation. We recommend cleaning your mask regularly to ensure optimum therapy.

Important to note:

  • Rinse the headgear with warm water and allow to air dry out of direct sunlight before initial use
  • Wash and rinse the mask cushion with pure soap and water and rinse thoroughly before initial use
  • Both the mask and headgear can only be cleaned by hand washing
  • The headgear may be washed without removing the headgear clips

What is an example of pure soap?

  • Baby shampoo
  • Neutrogena

What should I not use to clean my mask? Why?

  • Aromatic-based solutions or scented oils (eg, eucalyptus or essential oils)
  • Antibacterial soaps
  • Detergents (even if they are mild)
  • Alcohol
  • Products that smell strongly (eg, soaps with citrus)
  • Vinegar

We do not recommend that you use these products/solutions, as residual vapors left behind can be inhaled if not rinsed thoroughly. Antibacterial soaps, among others, may damage your mask and cause cracks, which may lead to skin irritation and poor mask performance.

Furthermore, do not iron the headgear as the material is heat-sensitive and could be damaged. For further instructions on how to clean your mask, please refer to the user guide.

UltraSoft™ memory foam mask cleaning

Keeping your ResMed UltraSoft™ memory foam cushion clean requires an entirely different kind of care. You do not need to clean the cushion every day. If any visible deterioration of the cushion is apparent, the cushion should be discarded and replaced. Learn more about replacing your mask at ResMed.com/AirTouchReminders.
